After Skool

In the scrapbook this week: After Skool and Sleeping Tapes

Hey guys,

Some new things:

  1. Jeff Bridges' Sleeping Tapes

  2. Why are things I like being updated by HBO with the same default slick look that's on every other HBO drama?

  3. Haven't looked at The White Lotus yet, but the soundtrack alone is impressive.

Cristobal Tapia de Veer also did killer work on Utopia.

  4. Just another little daily truth.

  5. For those of you iPhone Spielbergs out there

  6. Fear Street is more brutal than I thought. And for what it's trying to achieve, it's immensely skillful. Didn't anticipate to feel so tense watching something that comes from a teen book series. Then again, I only ever read some Goosebumps.

One of the cool takeaways is that history -- as recorded -- isn't always accurate. How does this apply to the real world today? Is history written by the winners? Maybe. Or maybe it's something more confusing. And cynical. Maybe everything -- including history -- depends on what bubble you live in.

  7. But still, let's try to use history to study the present. Menticide. Keep it in mind.

Finding some nuggets on this After Skool channel. Take your pick. Which one do you like?

  8. Paul Thomas Anderson's favorite films, or more like, films he's championed in conversation, but still worth a look.
