the opening night Q&A

In the scrapbook this week: tune in for a Q&A

Hey guys,

Some new things:

  1. We're doing the opening night Q&A with the Bushwick Film Fest tomorrow - Wed. Oct 21st.  Register to stream for free. Exec. Producer Hill Harper joins producer Paull Cho, lead Alejandro Santoni, and me to chat with the fest at 9:50PM EST, but the full session starts at 9PM, after the fest's opening night show.

The full film "Alberto and the Concrete Jungle" IS AVAILABLE TO STREAM at midnight tonight, through Oct. 25th. There's also a 25% off discount code: M0LL2TKTCCPT

  2. My view --

  3. I don't normally get into such direct political filmmakers, but this guy is worth reading. He was the definitive, back when it meant being a rebel and controversial artistse. Today it means being part of a trend.

Too bad it doesn't go up to 1989, to my favorite of his, full of memorable scenes like this. And an evocative emotional score like this. I haven't seen anything else capture that nostalgia of heartfelt suburban American life, and the disillusionment that reality brings, and the frustration at never being able to return to the good times. One of Tom Cruise's bests. A man who thinks being a patriot means one thing, forced to realize it means another. I don't think it's a lesson for our times, so much as it is a lesson for all times. Let none of us think we know anything. The epitome of dramatic storytelling craft.

  4. Here's a new poster

  5. 20 years ago, The Kronos Quartet performed Clint Mansell's music for Requiem for a Dream. Here they are now, masked and distanced.

There's also a new oral history on the film. As Mr. Aronofsky says, "It’s a whole different world now. If I were a young storyteller, I’m not sure I’d be making an independent film. I’d probably be trying to tell a story in another type of way." Something I'm always thinking about. C'est la vie.

  6. Another 20th anniversary
