An Alberto best actor award

In the scrapbook this week: McConaughey, extended screening, and new screening

Hey guys,

Some new things:

  1. There's a new best actor in Brooklyn, just in case you need another reason to see Alberto and the Concrete Jungle.

And so we've gotten our watch period extended with the Bushwick Film Fest. You now have through October 30th.

AND... you'll have another chance Nov 13-15 with the Big Apple Film Fest, one of MovieMaker Magazine's "25 Festivals Worth The Entry Fee" and "25 Coolest Film Festivals." It's virtual, but they're also arranging a drive-in screening over in Hillsdale, NJ, for those of you that live in NJ or want to swing over to experience the film like that. I used to live close by there, and it's usually not more than 40 min from Manhattan in a car. Schedule coming soon.

In case you missed it, we did a Q&A with Bushwick, where Mr. Hill Harper and Mr. Paull Cho give a brilliant sense of the film's scale.

After you've seen the film, or if you have seen it already, I'd so appreciate it if you could add your review to IMDb. But please no writing "congrats" and such, as we don't want it to seem like you know me or the filmmakers or cast. Keep that platform objective. Stranger telling strangers about a team you don't really know.

  2. There are green lights in life, the great positives that allow us to keep moving. There are also red lights, which force us to stop, but which ultimately will reveal a green light in some way... So says the existential poet McConaughey. More reason for me to be inspired by him. This article is a good summary.

  3. Quibi is gone. I don't watch stuff on my phone, unless it's embedded in a news article or someone's self-promotional feed. But I downloaded it to try the turnstyle feature, where the shot changes smoothly, without lag, as you turn your phone between horizontal and vertical. Sadly, many shows simply cut off most of the image when it switches to vertical. Why would I want to lose over half the image? The show Wireless does do something cool with the format. But mostly, the platform's content doesn't give enough reason to justify it. I'm sure there's a way to make something like this more successful, but the content itself needs to feel more valuable and/or groundbreaking.

  4. Unsolved Mysteries is back. So is Borat. But before we get too caught up in the Giuliani scene, let's give it fair thought. It's not that he's on his best behavior, but he's clearly being played by the filmmakers and cast. That's what they set out to do. Do we need to assume the worst? We're searching for scandal because we love it, and we love when it confirms what existing biases we may have. Here's a true analysis from someone with a filmmaker's eye

  5. One anonymous NYC street artist has decided to come forward.
